What an honour to have the new Oxford University Chancellor, Lord Hague, join us in celebrating the 2025 China Oxford Scholars and welcoming them to Oxford and the COSF network. The afternoon tea event took place at Brasenose College where COSF Keelan Scholar Daniel Lei performed two flute pieces which delighted guests. Members and Oxford alumni enjoyed a good dinner and shared recent update with one another ranging from the latest investment research opinions on humanoid robots to one alumna’s research in power electronics and her job search. We are pleased to announce that a new scholarship will be disbursed for the 2025 academic year. The Beardson Oxford Award will fund a scholar in any area of study. The Award is in honour and memory of our late International Chairman, Timothy Beardson, who passed away aged 69 on the 12th October 2020. We will reveal soon the first Beardson Oxford Scholar in our announcement of all the new 2025 Scholars so watch this space!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congratulations to Professor Michael Wooldridge who has been elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He is one of three Oxford academic to receive this honour this year.  Prof. Wooldridge is an Ashall Professor of Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Sr Research Fellow at Hertford College. He is one of 74 new Fellows recognised in 2025 for exceptional contributions to engineering and technology. The other two Oxford academics who have been elected are Emeritus Professor Ronald Roy and Professor Andrea Vedaldi from the Department of Engineering Science. Big congrats to Yuhan Li who’s been awarded one of the ten global graduate scholarships from the Wildlife Conservation Society. Yuhan is the only recipient from China in recent years to secure such a significant award. Well done Yuhan for securing the Julian Robertson Big Cat Conservation Fellowship which will further support her DPhil studies in Biology at Oxford. Yuhan is the 2024 COSF Wei Oxford Scholar and is a Rhodes Scholar alumna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are delighted to share the news that the China Oxford Scholarship Fund has two new Trustees. A big welcome to Prof. Fei Yan and Dr Boshen Wu as the newest members of the Hong Kong Board of Trustees. Both are China Oxford Scholar Alumni. Prof. Yan was at St Cross College and was awarded a DPhil in Sociology in 2011. Dr Anthony Boshen Wu attended Jesus College and earned his DPhil in Chemistry in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The COSF-Alumni Association in Beijing organised its first online-offline event with more than 20 scholars taking part around the world in the discussion on the \u201cWorld\u2019s Energy Strategy in a Turning Point\u201d. Scholar Yumin Yang \uff08Oxford MBA 2000-2001, COSF2000\uff09and Hanyang Ye\uff08Oxford DPhil in Condensed Matter Physics 2015-2020, COSF2015\uff09delivered their research on this topic. COSF AA senior member Grace Chen gifted books to COSF scholars and encouraged them to keep up with their careers. A wonderful time was had by all at the COSF Herford College Reception and Dinner event on the 16th November. Thank you to COSF Trustee Prof. Zhanfeng Cui and Oxford Awards Panel Chairman Prof. Michael Wooldridge for hosting and supporting this Covid-safe event which enabled 2021, 2020 and 2019 Scholars to meet up after these past 2 challenging years due to pandemic restrictions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Timothy Beardson 1951-2020<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Timothy Beardson, COSF’s former Chairman of the Hong Kong Board of Trustees. He passed away on Monday evening on the 12th October 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTim was instrumental in establishing COSF in the UK and was for a time a trustee in Hong Kong. He was also the International Chairman. Although he had stepped back from active involvement in the charity in recent times, his and Clair\u2019s hospitality was legendary and enjoyed by us all at the Hailey lunches which for many years contributed so much to COSF and the scholars,\u201d said Nicholas Dennys QC, COSF\u2019s  UK Chairman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Timothy was also a mentor for China Oxford Scholars. \u201cIt is my fortune to have met Mr Beardson. He set a great example for me as an entrepreneur, an educator, a friend, and a family man.  I will always remember his comments on life and hopefully in the future I can be someone like him, who cares for the next generation of young people. \u201c said scholar Hanyang Ye who was enrolled in the Global Leadership Initiative at Oxford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will all miss him dearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
